PRP Injections & CPT Coding: Are They Tissue Grafts?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection is not considered a tissue graft for the purposes of CPT billing. PRP is an autologous preparation of a patient's own blood, which contains a high concentration of platelets and growth factors. As such, it is considered to be a biological material, rather than a tissue graft.
The CPT codes for PRP injections are:
* 0232T: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection, percutaneous, single site
* 0233T: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection, percutaneous, multiple sites
These codes are used to report the injection of PRP into a single site (0232T) or multiple sites (0233T). The codes can be used for PRP injections in any location of the body.
