On blood work form what does H and mean?
H&H stands for Hemoglobin (Hb) and Hematocrit (Ht). Hemoglobin is a protein found in red blood cells that carries oxygen throughout the body. Hematocrit is the percentage of red blood cells in the blood.
H&H blood tests are used:
- To diagnose and monitor anemia, a condition in which the blood does not have enough red blood cells
- As part of a routine physical exam
- To monitor blood loss
- To screen for certain medical conditions, such as kidney disease and diabetes
