Eye Changes After a Broken Nose: Swelling, Bruising & Recovery
When you break your nose, it is common to experience swelling and bruising around the eyes, including:
- Black eyes: This is caused by blood pooling in the soft tissue around the eyes, which can take a few days to several weeks to resolve.
- Swollen eyes: The swelling can be significant, especially during the first few days after the injury, and may cause the eyelids to become puffy and appear shut.
- Bruised skin: The skin around the eyes can become dark and bruised, and this may extend to the cheeks and forehead.
- Bloodshot eyes: The eyes may also become bloodshot due to the broken blood vessels in the eye.
These symptoms usually improve within a few weeks, but it is important to seek medical attention if you experience any sudden changes in vision, severe pain, or signs of infection.
