Ear Knot After Fall: When to Seek Medical Attention in Children
It is important to seek medical attention if your 8-year-old has a big knot behind her ear following a fall.
While it is possible that the knot is simply a bruise or swelling that will resolve on its own, there is also the potential for more serious injuries, such as a skull fracture or internal bleeding.
A doctor can assess the knot and determine whether further tests or treatment are necessary. Some signs and symptoms that may indicate a more serious injury include:
* The knot is very large or painful.
* There is bruising or swelling around the knot.
* Your child is having difficulty moving their head or neck.
* Your child is experiencing nausea, vomiting, or dizziness.
* Your child has a headache that does not go away with over-the-counter pain relievers.
If your child is experiencing any of these symptoms, it is important to seek medical attention right away.
