Responding to Medical Emergencies: What to Do When Advanced Care is Needed
If a victim needs advanced medical aid that you are not qualified to perform:
1. Assess the victims' condition.
- Check the victim's airway, breathing, and circulation and take appropriate steps to stabilise them.
2. Stop the bleeding.
- Apply pressure to any wounds and use a tourniquet if necessary to control bleeding.
3. Protect the wound.
- Cover the wound with sterile bandage or clean cloth.
4. Do not attempt to remove any foreign objects from the wound.
5. Call 911 for emergency medical assistance.
6. Stay with the victim until help arrives.
- Provide emotional support and comfort.
