Butter and Burns: Why It's Harmful & What To Do Instead
Using butter to cool a burn can worsen the injury and hinder the healing process. Butter acts as a barrier, trapping heat within the affected area and prolonging the burning sensation. Additionally, butter may contain bacteria that increase the risk of infection. For burn treatment, it is generally recommended to immediately immerse the burnt area in or run it under cool, preferably cold, water for at least 30 minutes, followed by gently cleaning with soap and water and wrapping the area with a clean, dry cloth to prevent air exposure.
