Minor Burn Treatment: A Step-by-Step Guide for Home Care
Minor burns affect an area 3 inches or smaller in diameter. These burns require immediate attention but can usually be treated without a hospital or doctor's visit.
Instructions
Immediately soak the burn in cool water. Never apply ice.
Cover the burned area with gauze, unless it is oozing. If you don't have gauze, a clean towel will suffice.
Watch for swelling, redness, or oozing, which are signs of infection. Call a doctor if you have any of these signs.
To ease the pain, you can take aspirin, ibuprofen or acetaminophen.
