What is the definition of an Anaphylaxis?
Anaphylaxis is a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction that can occur within seconds or minutes of exposure to an allergen. It is caused by the release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators from mast cells and basophils.
Symptoms of anaphylaxis can include:
* Difficulty breathing
* Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
* Hives
* Itching
* Nausea and vomiting
* Diarrhea
* Abdominal pain
* Lightheadedness
* Dizziness
* Loss of consciousness
Anaphylaxis is a medical emergency and requires immediate treatment with epinephrine (adrenaline). If you experience any of the symptoms of anaphylaxis, call 911 immediately.
