How to Hold a Derby Cane
A derby cane provides a comfortable grip and extra support when you need some assistance. The cane features a reinforced pin between the handle and shaft, which helps distribute your weight over the shaft to give you greater stability. You can use the derby cane in either hand and hook the curved handle over your arm when you need a free hand. Knowing how to properly hold the cane can help you use it efficiently and reduce the risk of falling.
Instructions
Grip the handle of the derby cane with the hand opposite the injured or weaker side.
Stand up straight and hold the derby cane with your elbow slightly bent so that the handle of the cane is level with your wrist.
Place the derby cane about one step ahead of you. Begin walking with your weaker leg. The cane provides support while your stronger leg moves.
