Understanding Cartilage Types: Hyaline, Elastic & Fibrocartilage
There are three main types of cartilage:
1. Hyaline cartilage is the most common type of cartilage. It is found in many parts of the body, including the joints, nose, ears, and trachea. Hyaline cartilage is smooth, flexible, and provides a cushioning effect.
2. Elastic cartilage is found in the ears and epiglottis. It is similar to hyaline cartilage, but it is more flexible and elastic.
3. Fibrocartilage is found in the intervertebral discs and menisci of the knee. It is the strongest type of cartilage and is composed of a dense network of collagen fibers.
