However, if there is a mismatch between these signals, the brain can become confused and interpret the movement as being caused by an illness. This can lead to a range of symptoms, including:

* Dizziness and light-headedness
* Headaches and fatigue
* Sweating and cold sweating
* Stomach pain and diarrhoea
* Increased saliva production
* Difficulty concentrating

Motion sickness is usually mild and will go away on its own after a period of time. However, there are a number of things that can be done to help prevent or reduce the severity of symptoms, including:
* Sitting in the front seat of a car or facing forward on a train or boat
* Avoiding sitting near the engine or exhaust of a vehicle
* Reading, watching a movie, or listening to music to distract yourself from the motion
* Keeping your head still and avoiding sudden movements
* Eating a light meal before travelling and avoiding alcohol and caffeine
* Taking an over-the-counter motion sickness medication
If you experience severe motion sickness, you may need to see a doctor for prescription medication or other treatments.
