Nickel Allergy Test: Using a Quarter at Home
Over ten percent of women and six percent of men suffer from nickel allergies, which can be detrimental to daily life. Nickel is present in common household objects such as coins, tools, utensils, jewelry, and even some foods. By diagnosing nickel allergies early, you can take steps to prevent rashes and discomfort -- for example, paying close attention to the metal content of any jewelry you might purchase.Things You'll Need
- One U.S. quarter
- Adhesive tape
Instructions
Locate a suitable patch of skin for the nickel allergy test. Allergists usually use the upper back when performing such tests.
Place the quarter on the selected location and tape it down. Avoid washing the area or getting sweaty, so the tape does not peel off.
Wait 24 to 48 hours. If any sort of redness, swelling, or rash has developed after this time, you have a nickel allergy.
