Is the esophagus also known as throat?
The esophagus and throat are not the same. The throat, also called the pharynx, is a muscular tube that connects the nasal passages and mouth to the larynx (voice box) and esophagus. It is responsible for swallowing, breathing, and speaking. The esophagus, on the other hand, is a muscular tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach. It is lined with mucous membranes and has a muscular structure that allows it to move food through contractions called peristalsis. The esophagus is not involved in breathing or speaking, but is essential for digestion.Throat Cancer - Related Articles
