What are the three major motor functions of stomach?
1. Mixing - The stomach muscles contract and relax to mix the food with digestive juices and break it down into smaller pieces.
2. Storage - The stomach acts as a temporary storage site for food. Food can remain in the stomach for several hours before it is passed into the small intestine.
3. Emptying - The stomach muscles contract to push the food into the small intestine. This process is called gastric emptying.
