Hydrochloric Acid Production in the Stomach: Function & Cells
The gastric pits in the stomach secrete hydrochloric acid (HCl). HCl is a strong acid that helps to break down food in the stomach. It also helps to kill bacteria and other microorganisms that may be present in food. HCl is produced by the parietal cells in the gastric pits. These cells are activated by the hormone gastrin, which is released when food enters the stomach.Gastric Cancer - Related Articles
