What is exocoelomic cyst?
Exocoelomic cyst is rare benign cystic pancreatic lesion lined by flattened mesothelium. It arises from displaced remnants of the embryonic coelom. It accounts for 0.5-5.1% of all cystic lesions of pancreas and most commonly occurs in adult males.
Commonly presents as an incidental finding during abdominal imaging for unrelated reasons. Usually asymptomatic, but may cause gastrointestinal symptoms, abdominal pain.
Ultrasonography, CT is typically used to diagnose. On imaging, it is well circumscribed unilocular, thin walled cyst with no connections to pancreatic duct.
Usually managed conservatively. Surgical resection is considered only if symptoms do not resolve with conservative treatment.
