Condyloid Joints: Definition, Function & Examples
Condyloid joint:
- An ellipsoid condyle (convex) of one bone articulates with an elliptical concave depression (condyle) of the other bone.
- Allows movements like flexion and extension, abduction and adduction, and circumduction.
- It is also referred to as condylar or ovoid joints.
- Examples of condyloid joints include the radiocarpal and metacarpophalangeal joints of the hand and the atlanto-axial joint between the atlas and the axial (second cervical) vertebra.
