Understanding Dyskinesias: Causes, Types, and Symptoms
Dyskinesias are involuntary, purposeless movements that can affect any part of the body. They can be caused by a variety of conditions, including Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, and tardive dyskinesia.
Dyskinesias can be classified into two main types:
* Choreoathetosis: This type of dyskinesia is characterized by rapid, jerky movements of the limbs, trunk, and face.
* Dystonia: This type of dyskinesia is characterized by sustained, involuntary muscle contractions that can cause twisting or contorting movements of the body.
Dyskinesias can range from mild to severe and can significantly interfere with a person's daily activities. There is no cure for dyskinesias, but there are treatments that can help to manage the symptoms.
