Cervical Cerclage: Risks and Morbidity Rates - A Comprehensive Overview
The overall rate of serious maternal morbidity resulting from cerclage placement was low but occurred in 45 of 749 patients (6.0%). Cerclage-related uterine rupture, hysterectomy, or both occurred in six women (0.8%). Cerclage-related serious infectious morbidity requiring treatment for endometritis, sepsis, pelvic abscess, urinary tract infection, or wound infection requiring intravenous antibiotics or hospitalization occurred in 39 additional women (5.2%).
