Killing Ticks with Natural Ingredients
Purchase a large volume of salt at your local grocery store. Spread a thin layer on your furniture, a medium layer on your floors and windowsills, and a thick layer on your carpet prior to going to sleep at night. When you wake up in the morning, vacuum the salt from the furniture, floors, and windowsills. Remove the carpet cleaner bag and place in a sealed bag and dispose of it in the garbage can. Leave the salt in the carpet for one week before vacuuming, and repeat the process for bag disposal. Salt will kill larvae and eggs, and the coarseness of the salt tears away at their bodies until they come apart.
Salt can also be applied to your pets. Using laytex gloves, apply and rub salt into your pet's skin.
Gather all infested clothing and place in a mesh bag and place in your dryer. Dry on hot heat for 30 minutes. Remove the clothing and wash in your washing machine, using hot, soapy water. Be certain to wash all pet bedding regularly.
To get rid of ticks in your yard, mow your lawn and keep it short. Fill any cracks and crevices in the cement that ticks may hide in. Mix basil with water and use as a spray in the yard.
