Jock itch usually clears up within 2 to 4 weeks with proper treatment. If the infection is severe or doesn’t improve after 2 to 4 weeks of home treatment, see your doctor. In rare cases, jock itch may spread to other areas of the body, including the groin, buttocks, and lower abdomen. If the infection spreads, you may need to take antifungal medications by mouth.
