Effective Mosquito Repellents Without DEET: Natural & Safe Solutions
Mosquitoes can be nothing but a nuisance in the summer, especially into the evenings. Bug sprays are often the first choice of mosquito prevention. However, these products contain DEET, which is not to be used by children under the age of two. Luckily, there are many alternatives to bug spray.
Instructions
Light citronella-scented candles. The scent acts as a deterrent to mosquitoes. In addition, the candles give off heat and carbon dioxide, which can repel mosquitoes.
Use a bug zapper. Bug zappers attract mosquitoes with their light and shock the mosquitoes once they enter the fixture.
Replace your outdoor lights with yellow bug lights. Traditional outdoor lights will attract mosquitoes. Yellow bug lights will not attract mosquitoes, reducing the number of mosquitoes nearby that could bite you.
Apply oil of lemon eucalyptus. This oil is an alternative to bug sprays and is comparable to products with low levels of DEET.
Wear clothing to protect yourself from mosquitoes. Long-sleeved shirts and long pants work well. Also, wear light-colored clothes, as mosquitoes are attracted to darker colors.
