Villi: Understanding Nutrient Absorption in the Small Intestine

The small bumps in intestines that absorb food are called villi. They are tiny, finger-like projections that line the inner wall of the small intestine. Villi are covered in microvilli, which are even smaller projections that further increase the surface area of the small intestine. This increased surface area allows for more efficient absorption of nutrients from food.
