Can you pick up a urine infection from the sea?
While it's possible to get a urinary tract infection (UTI) from swimming in the sea, it's not very common. In order to get a UTI, bacteria must enter the urinary tract, usually through the urethra. This can happen when someone swims in contaminated water and bacteria enters the body through the urethra. It's important to note that not everyone who swims in contaminated water will get a UTI, and there are a number of factors that can increase the risk of infection, such as:
-Having a weakened immune system
-Having a urinary tract abnormality
-Using a catheter
-Being female
If you have any concerns about getting a UTI, it's always best to talk to a healthcare provider.
