Spinal Injury First Aid: Minimizing Movement & Patient Safety
Spinal Injury Reminders
- Assume all injured patients have a spinal injury until proven otherwise.
- DO NOT move the patient unless they are in immediate danger.
- If you must move the patient, do so with extreme care and support the head, neck, and spine in a neutral position.
- Use a rigid board to support the patient’s spine and prevent it from flexing or twisting.
- Immobilize the head and neck with a cervical collar.
- Call for emergency medical assistance immediately.
