Cardiac Notch: Location, Anatomy, and Significance

The cardiac notch is a concavity in the anterior margin of the left lung which accommodates the apex of the heart. It is located at about the fifth intercostal space anteriorly, lateral to the midclavicular line. The cardiac notch is bounded by the left border of the inferior lobe of the left lung below and the lingula above.
