ECG Electrode Placement for Below Knee Amputees: A Practical Guide
When performing an electrocardiogram on a below knee amputee, you will need to remember the following:1. The electrode placement for the right leg should be placed on the sound knee.
2. The electrode placement for the left leg could be placed on the amputated leg if sufficient residual limb is available. If there is no residual limb, place electrode on anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS).
3. The electrocardiogram machine will calculate and report on 3 leads with the amputated leg, these are often labeled as:
* LA-RA
* LA-LL
* RA-LL
