The History of Cataract Surgery: Pioneering Techniques & Sushruta

Cataract surgery was first performed in ancient India around the 6th century BC by a surgeon named Sushruta. He used a sharp needle to extract the cataractous lens from the eye. This procedure was later adopted by Greek and Roman surgeons, who used a similar technique.
