Pregnancy Weeks: Understanding Implantation and Calculation
No, implantation is not counted towards pregnancy weeks. Pregnancy is calculated from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). When a fertilized egg implants in the lining of the uterus, it is usually around day 10-12 after ovulation. This means that you are technically pregnant for about 2 weeks before you implant, but these 2 weeks are not included in the pregnancy count.
The reason for this is because it can be difficult to determine exactly when implantation occurs. Ovulation can also be difficult to pin-point, especially if you have irregular cycles. By counting from the first day of your LMP, doctors and midwives have a more consistent and reliable way of tracking pregnancy.
