UK Safety Passports: Requirements, Training & How to Get One
Safety passports are plastic passport photo ID cards issued in the U.K. that identify individuals as having completed a required amount of health and safety training. Safety passports authorize holders to enter passport-controlled work environments. You must go through a training course to receive your safety passport. The course offers training on general safety common to all industries, as well as industry specific training, according to the Safety Pass Alliance (SPA) website. Industries the SPA lists that benefit from safety passports include building maintenance, food and drink, general manufacturing, industrial utilities, renewable energy, ports and shipping, quarries, underground railways, construction, logistics and live events.
Instructions
Research the safety passport requirements specific to your industry on the Safety Pass Alliance website (see References).
Find a training provider near you and enroll in a class or purchase an online curriculum.
Ask the training provider what documentation is necessary to participate in the training and supply that documentation.
Complete the training.
Submit your paperwork to the SPA.
Wait for your safety passport to arrive via mail.
