Sea Lice & Human Safety
The ocean if full of critters and pests that can end up causing discomfort. Sea lice are among theses pests and can lead to very irritating rashes.-
Features

Sea lice are the larvae of sea anemones. They most often attach themselves to certain types of fish, but come close to shore when they sting humans.
Geography

Sea lice are commonly found in the temperate climates of the Northern Hemisphere. Officials commonly report sea lice off the coast of South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. They are also found in Japan, New Zealand, Mexico and the Canadian Pacific.
Human Safety

When sea lice sting humans, they cause an immediate burning sensation. This burning sensation becomes very itchy and irritating after exiting the water. A rash usually will appear on the skin a day or two after the initial bite.
Considerations

The rash produced by sea lice can last for one to two weeks and will be itchy. Applying hydrogen peroxide will help prevent against an infection.
Treatment

Most that suffer from sea lice stings do not seek medical treatment as the rash recedes within a few weeks. Doctors can prescribe topical creams or systemic corticosteroids to provide faster relief.
