1921 Immigration Act: Literacy Test & US Immigration History
In 1917, the United States Congress passed the Immigration Act of 1917. The act, also known as the literacy test, required immigrants to be able to read and write in some language. The test was controversial, and many people felt that it discriminated against immigrants from Southern and Eastern Europe. The test was repealed in 1965.First Aid - Related Articles
