Proper Headrest Height
The position of your car's headrest serves an important role in protecting against neck injuries. If you do not position your headrest properly, you risk injury in the event of a car accident.-
Proper Position
-
Position your headrest no more than 2 inches from the back of your head. Align the largest part of the headrest with the back of your head at ear height. If your headrest is in the lowest position possible, it most likely is not at the correct level.
Adjustability
-
Unfortunately, not all cars allow for perfect headrest positioning. It is important, though, to adjust the headrest to the position closest to perfect, in your own car as well as any others that you drive. Just as you adjust the mirrors, the headrest needs adjustment as well.
Impact of Accidents
-
Poor headrest positioning makes you susceptible to injury, especially when hit from the rear or the front. When hit, your body thrusts forward and then back, or vice versa. If your head does not make contact with the headrest before your neck, serious injury could result, often in the form of whiplash.
