CPR Training: Lifesaving Skills from the American Red Cross
The American Red Cross, founded in 1881, is one of the largest providers of CPR and other safety training courses. It is a worldwide organization that provides courses for the community on a regular basis. There are many occupations that require CPR certification in order to gain or maintain employment. Below are some basic facts about CPR training provided by the Red Cross.-
Identification
-
CPR stands for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. It is a technique that helps save someone who has stopped breathing and whose heart has stopped beating.
Components
-
CPR training teaches you to first assess the situation and then act in an emergency. It is a combination of activating an emergency plan and then administering care.
Rescue Breathing
-
With rescue breathing you essentially breathe for the victim. Only give rescue breaths if the person is not breathing at all.
Chest Compressions
-
The Red Cross CPR training shows you how to give compressions to help stimulate the heart if it is not beating. Never give chest compressions to someone that has a pulse.
Time Frame
-
Your Red Cross CPR certification is good for one year.
Considerations
-
To administer CPR correctly, you need to take a course in person from a Red Cross certified instructor; online certification is not possible.
