Infant CPR: Proper Sniffing Position for Effective Rescue
Sniffing Position for Infants During CPR
During the sniffing position, the infant is placed with the head slightly extended with the chin lifted and the nostrils slightly elevated. This helps to promote optimal airflow and reduce the risk of airway obstruction.
Steps to perform the sniffing position for infants during CPR:
1. Place the infant on a firm, flat surface.
2. Position yourself at the infant's head.
3. Use one hand to gently support the infant's neck.
4. Use your other hand to gently tilt their head back so that the chin is lifted.
5. If necessary, you may also need to slightly elevate their nostrils.
6. Maintain this position throughout CPR until proper medical help arrives.
Note: The sniffing position should only be used if the infant is unresponsive and not breathing. It is important to seek professional medical help immediately if an infant requires CPR.
