Countries Still Employing Corporal Punishment: A 2022 Overview
According to Amnesty International, as of 2022, the following countries are known to still use corporal punishment as a means of reprimanding adult criminals:
Flogging:
- Brunei
- Indonesia (Aceh province only)
- Maldives
- Nigeria (some states)
- Qatar
- Saudi Arabia
- Singapore
- Sudan
- Yemen
Amputation:
- Iran
- Saudi Arabia
- Sudan
-Yemen
Branding:
- Saudi Arabia
It is important to note that some of these countries may have laws against corporal punishment, but the practice may still occur due to lack of enforcement or other factors. The use of corporal punishment as a form of punishment is widely condemned by human rights organizations.
