Hypo-Volition: Understanding Lack of Motivation in Psychiatry
Hypo-volition, also called avolition, is a symptom of mental disorders characterized by a lack of motivation or drive. People with hypo-volition may have difficulty initiating and completing tasks, and they may feel fatigued or apathetic. They may also have difficulty making decisions or taking action, and they may be indecisive or procrastinate.
Hypo-volition can be a symptom of a variety of mental disorders, including schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). It can also be a symptom of substance use disorders, such as alcohol and drug addiction.
Treatment for hypo-volition typically involves addressing the underlying mental disorder or substance use disorder. This may involve medication, psychotherapy, or a combination of treatments.
