Signs and symptoms of preeclampsia
Preeclampsia is a serious pregnancy complication that can lead to eclampsia, a life-threatening condition. Preeclampsia is characterized by high blood pressure and protein in the urine. It can also cause other symptoms, including:
* Swelling in the face, hands, and feet
* Weight gain
* Headache
* Blurred vision
* Nausea and vomiting
* Abdominal pain
* Shortness of breath
When to call the doctor
Call your doctor or midwife immediately if you have any of the following symptoms:
* High blood pressure (140/90 mm Hg or higher)
* Protein in the urine
* Severe swelling in the face, hands, and feet
* Rapid weight gain
* Headache
* Blurred vision
* Nausea and vomiting
* Abdominal pain
* Shortness of breath
Preeclampsia is a serious condition, but it can be managed if it is caught early. If you have any of the symptoms of preeclampsia, call your doctor or midwife immediately.
