Bipolar Disorder: Understanding Mood Swings & Symptoms

The disorder in which people alternate between states of lethargic hopelessness and wild over excitement is known as bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder is a mental illness that causes extreme mood swings that include emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression). During a manic or hypomanic episode, a person may experience increased energy, racing thoughts, decreased need for sleep, impulsivity, and euphoria. In contrast, during a depressive episode, a person may experience feelings of sadness, worthlessness, loss of interest in activities, and low energy.
