Understanding Pathological Lying in Teen Girls: Causes & Disorders
Pathological lying, also known as compulsive lying or mythomania, is a mental health condition characterized by a pattern of repeated lying that is not motivated by any obvious external reward. It is a symptom of several mental disorders, including antisocial personality disorder, borderline personality disorder, and histrionic personality disorder.
Pathological liars often have low self-esteem and are insecure about their abilities or accomplishments. They may also be impulsive and lack empathy for others. This condition can lead to problems in all aspects of life, including relationships, school, and work.
If you are concerned that your teen daughter is compulsively lying, it is important to consult with a mental health professional for diagnosis and treatment. Treatment may include individual therapy, family therapy, and/or medication.
