Handling Unavailable Appointment Times: A Guide for Medical Assistants
When the requested time is not available, the medical assistant should:1. State that the requested appointment time is not available
2. Give the patient the next available appointment time for the provider.
3. If there are no available appointments with that provider that day, politely give the next closest appointment time.
4. Offer to check with other providers in the office to see if they have any availability.
5. Inform the patient that they can always come in for urgent care if they are unable to wait.
