St. Martha: Patron Saint of Housekeepers - History & Meaning

According to tradition, St. Martha was a housekeeper for her siblings, Lazarus and Mary of Bethany. In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus visits their house and commends Mary for sitting at his feet and listening to him, while Martha busied herself with serving him. This incident has led to the popular understanding of Martha as the patron saint of housekeepers and domestic workers.
