What degrees are you required to have for a registered nurse?
Registered nurses (RNs) typically need a bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university. Some states may also accept an associate degree in nursing (ADN) from an accredited community college, but many employers prefer candidates with a BSN.
ADN programs typically take two to three years to complete, while BSN programs typically take four years. In addition to coursework in nursing, RNs must also complete clinical training in a hospital or other healthcare setting.
RNs must pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) in order to practice nursing. The NCLEX-RN is a standardized exam that tests candidates' knowledge of nursing practice.
