Can a fifteen year old freshman girl in high school work as nursing assistant?
In most states, the minimum age to work as a nursing assistant is 16. If you're working for an employer that provides home healthcare, that age goes down to 15. Even so, your state may require completing an approved educational program before hiring you. And when they do, they're more likely to hire teenagers who are 16 or 17.
To work as a nursing assistant, you must complete a state-approved training program. Some states also require nursing assistants to pass a competency exam. The training program will teach you how to provide basic care for patients, such as bathing, dressing, and feeding them. You will also learn how to take vital signs, administer medications, and provide first aid.
After you have completed the training program, you must pass a competency exam in most states. The exam will test your knowledge of nursing assistant skills. Once you have passed the competency exam, you can work as a nursing assistant.
