Mediclaim Agent Commission in India: IRDAI Regulations & Rates
In India, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) regulates the commission structure for health insurance policies, including Mediclaim policies. The commission paid to agents for selling Mediclaim policies is typically a percentage of the premium amount, and it can vary depending on the insurance company and the type of policy.
IRDAI has set a cap on the maximum commission that can be paid to agents for selling Mediclaim policies. The current limit is 30% of the first-year premium and 7.5% of the renewal premiums for individual policies. For group policies, the maximum commission is 20% of the first-year premium and 5% of the renewal premiums.
It is important to note that the commission paid to agents is usually included in the premium charged for the Mediclaim policy. This means that the policyholder ultimately bears the cost of the agent's commission.
