Improve Walker Mobility: Installing Ski Glides for Smooth Movement
Wheeled walkers provide support for convalescing patients to get up on their feet and walk. The two wheels at the front give mobility and the two rear legs provide weight-bearing stability. The standard rubber tips on the rear legs can snag on sidewalk joints or other uneven surfaces, however, requiring the user to lift the walker to resume forward movement. Penco Medical's Walker Glides are an aftermarket product that replaces the rubber tips. Shaped like the front of a ski or sled so they slide smoothly over bumps and ridges, Walker Glides enable users to traverse a wider variety of surfaces without having to lift the back of the walker. They are available in sizes to fit most walker legs and can be securely installed in minutes.Things You'll Need
- Screwdriver
Instructions
Turn the walker upside down and pull the original rubber tips off the rear legs.
Insert the stem of one of the glides partially into the tubing of one of the walker's rear legs.
Orient the glide so that its angled portion is pointing forward toward the front wheels of the walker.
Press the stem of the glide completely down into the tubing of the walker's rear leg.
Tighten the recessed stainless steel screw in the bottom of the glide with a screwdriver to lock it securely in place. Repeat the procedure for the other walker leg.
