How to Sign Up for Medicare Online
Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance coverage to people over age 65, as well as some people with permanent disabilities and end-stage renal disease. You can apply for Medicare online to avoid the hassle of the local Social Security office. The online Medicare application does not require you to print or manually sign any documents. You will receive your cards in the mail once the SSA processes your application.
Instructions
Go to the Social Security Administration website and click on the "Medicare" heading on the top right side of the page. Click "Apply for Medicare benefits."
Answer the questions regarding who you are applying for and any visual impairments that would hinder online application. Click on the check box to confirm you have read the Privacy Act Statement and click "Apply For Benefits."
Follow the prompts on the next pages to fill out the online application. Include identifying information such as your name, Social Security number, gender and date of birth, as well as information pertaining to other Social Security benefits you already receive, your medical coverage needs and existing insurance coverage.
Review the information you provided and click "Submit Application" to complete the Medicare application process.
