Mayo Stand Setup: A Guide for Medical & Dental Assistants
A Mayo stand is the metal stand on which a physician or dentist lays out the instruments needed for a procedure. This wheeled stand consists of a tubular frame. It is traditional for a medical or dental assistant to set up the stand prior to the procedure. Everything on or above the stand must be sterile.Things You'll Need
- Mayo stand
- Antiseptic wipes
- Tidy Towel
- Instruments
Instructions
Clean the stand with an antiseptic wipes, moving in a circular motion from inside to outside. Unfold and cover with a sterile Tidy Towel.
Open the required instruments from their sterile packages (either from the autoclave or single-use packages), and set on the Tidy Towel.
Glove up, and set the instruments in order from left to right, in the position your medical professional has requested for the procedure.
Cover with another sterile Tidy Towel until the procedure begins.
Hand the instruments to the physician or dentist as needed during the procedure.
