Female Genitalia Anatomy: Understanding Vulva and Its Parts
The external genitalia of the female are collectively called the vulva. The main structures of the vulva are:- the mons veneris, a fatty mound covered with hair that protects the pubic bone
- the labia majora, two large folds of skin that cover the labia minora and the opening of the vagina
- the labia minora, two smaller folds of skin located inside the labia majora
- the clitoris, a small, sensitive erectile tissue located at the top of the labia minora
- the urethral opening, the opening of the urethra, which is the tube that carries urine from the bladder
- the vaginal opening, the opening of the vagina, which is the tube that leads to the uterus
