How to Reduce Facial Oiliness
Oily patches on your face aren̵7;t a sign of poor health. In fact, the skin secretes oils as a line of defense against dirt and other foreign substances. In addition, the oil helps keep your skin hydrated and healthy-looking as you age. Unfortunately, this natural mechanism also comes with a downside: Excess oil can contribute to acne breakouts and a greasy feeling. Changes in your daily habits can help you control that oily buildup.
Instructions
Lower your dietary intake of starch and greasy foods. These foods will cause your skin to produce extra oil.
Wash your face twice a day with a facial cleanser containing benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, glycolic acid or beta-hydroxy acid. According to WebMD, these products will reduce your skin̵7;s oiliness. However, avoid using multiple products that contain these ingredients. If you overdo it, you̵7;ll dry out your skin.
Carry blotting sheets or medicated pads with you, and use them throughout the day. Pat your skin lightly with a blotting sheet, to absorb excess oil and reduce shine.
Apply an oil-free moisturizer on overly dry skin. If your skin becomes too dry, it will compensate for the lack of moisture by producing extra oil.
Consult a dermatologist, if your attempts to tame the oily patches have failed or caused skin damage. A specialist may be able to recommend an alternative treatment, such as a chemical peel.
